Philip Seymour Hoffman plays a character named Mr. Spencer who owns a successful Manhattan advertising agency. The character comes across as a bit shallow and has a tendency to be overly sensitive, which is what makes him so appealing to viewers.

There is an episode in the series where Mr. Spencer begins to take an interest in the lives of the residents of a nearby apartment complex. When his wife tells him that he needs to stop his intrusive actions, he becomes suspicious and starts making a lot of noise around the complex. He ends up sleeping with one of the residents' daughters, Sarah, which puts them both at risk.
